Day 5, Tonya Is Home

Well we are finally home. The doctor said he wanted Tonya to continue antibiotics for 10 more days at home. They will be pills by mouth. We are glad to be home. Tonya is better but not well by any stretch of the imagination. The doctor also told her to take an antibiotic one time a day for about a year. This is supposed to help keep the infections suppressed. We will see how it goes. For now we are home. Lets hope it stays that way for a while.

Tonya Day 4

Tonya said the doctor came in this morning and she asked him if she could go home tomorrow. He said if she didn't run a fever between now and tomorrow we would see. This is good news but we still don't know if home health will be required or not. I think she needs more antibiotics than what she has had in 4 days. We will see how it goes.

Day Three, Tonya Fighting Bad Infection

Well,
The doc came in this morning and told Tonya she had a very bad kidney infection. It must be very bad for a culture to have grown something this quickly. He increased her antibiotics to twice a day instead of once daily like it normally is. Maybe this will speed things up but I don't see her coming home before friday or saturday.
Tonya is still having some nausea and diarreha but it is getting better. Hopefully she will be able to come home sometime this weekend but who knows?
That's about it for now. I'm going to work tonight and tomorrow night so the updates for the next two days may not come until early in the morning. Until day 4,

Tonya, Day Two

Day Two,
The doctor came in this morning and told Tonya she had a kidney infection. We thought this was very fast since it usually takes a minimum of 24 hours for a preliminary culture report to come back. It had only been about 12 hours or so since a urine specimen had been taken. The doctor told me today no preliminary report had been received yet and that he based the infection on the White Blood Cell count which was in the urine. It was 30,000. He said this was unusually high and normally when she comes to the hospital the count is 5 - 10. He has begun antibiotics and so far her temp has been normal today. For now there are no special tests scheduled but it takes a minimum of 3 days for the urine culture to come back.

The only major problem with Tonya being in the hospital this week is that our son is supposed to come home for the weekend, this weekend. Tonya is very upset about being in the hospital and doesn't know if she will get ot come home by Saturday or not as of yet. She is going to ask the doctor if she can come home Friday and continue treatments on home health. Maybe this will take place, we hope. That's about it for now. We will see what day three holds for tomorrow but i'm not expecting any new developments.
Until tomorrow,
Brian

Tonya Is In Stringfellow Hospital

Hi Again,
As I stated in my first email, I am keeping you updated on things. Tonya is in room 351 @ Stringfellow Hospital. Her room number is 256-235-8351. She also has her cell with her 613-3486. As soon as I find out something from the doctor I will let everyone know what's going on. It may be a day or two before we find out a definite answer, but I will write something everyday until this is over. Stay tuned for day two. Brian

Tonya To Go Back In The Hospital

Hi All,
As many of you know this past weekend Tonya became very sick with nausea and diarrhea. I called the doctor's office this morning and they said as soon as there is a bed open at Stringfellow they will call us. Her temp was around 101 and 102 all weekend and she feels really bad. This is a good sign she has a kidney infection again. I'll update everyone on what the room number is as soon as we get to leave. For now, we are still at home waiting on the hospital to call and say the bed is ready. And so begins day one.
