Tonya Update
Hey all,
Just wanted to give a quick update on Tonya. As many of you know she was put back in the hospital on Friday May 2nd. She was running a fever of 103. We finally were told the port they placed less than two weeks ago was now infected. They are trying to get the infection to go away without pulling the line. They said it will take a 14 day regimen of I.V. antibiotics. I don't think we are going to have to be at the hospital that long though as home health can do this. The doc did say Tonya had septicemia which is an infection of the blood. He said it was getting better, but don't look to go home before Saturday at the earliest, and that's still up in the air.
Her pain pump was due to be refilled on Thursday and when we told the doctor he said, "call them today and make other arrangements because Thursday is not an option for going home". I have called the pain pump doctor and was told to call them back tomorrow when and if I knew a definite plan. I still don't know a definite plan. We will are having to take this one day at a time right now.
The doctor did say Tonya could get an antibiotic at home, however, the cost is like 400 - 500 bucks a dose. She gets one a day for 14 days. He said insurance would not want to pay for it outside the hospital setting, but he was going to get the infection control doctor to call insurance and tell them what kind of bill they were looking at if she stayed in the hospital versus them paying for the drug at home. We'll see what happens.
If you would like to call Tonya's room number is 256-235-8304. Once again she is at Stringfellow Hospital.
That's about all for now. I have to work for the next two days so I'm going to bed now. It will probably be Friday before you hear another update from me unless you call Tonya before then.
